• 1 large yam or two small yams
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (non-dairy)
  • 10 one-inch squares of chocolate bar (without milk)
  • Milk-free granulated chocolate (if you want to roll the brigadeiros)


  • Step 1: Peel and cook the yam until soft

  • Step 2: Beat the yam, water, chocolate powder and sugar in a blender until it turns into a smooth cream

  • Step 3: Transfer to a pan and add the chocolate bar over medium heat until it thickens and detaches from the bottom of the pan

  • Step 4: To roll the brigadeiro, take it to the fridge for a few hours to harden and reach the correct consistency

  • Step 5: Put the chocolate sprinkles on a plate and pass the brigadeiros to stick the sprinkles
